Paul Johnson is going to rock Georgia's world....

If we don't play any defense, Gardner Webb could rock our world. Enjoy your rare win.

Hamp, do you think Richt will now fire his long-time friend, Willie Martinez, whose defenses are poorly coached year in and year out? The only way to run that base defense is to have studs up front, especially on the ends. Unlike the last several years, we didn't have that this year and he never adjusted. He rarely blitzes, and when he does, he never disguises it. My elementary school aged cousin could scheme against that defense. I think the defense got worse as the year progressed. Today was inexcusable and punctuates the most disappointing season of the Richt era. 400+ rushing yards and 26 third quarter points...and Steve Spurrier wasn't even in the same state. If Richt is ever going to make it to the next level in the competitive environmnent of the SEC, he better be man enough to make a tough choice...like letting Martinez go even if it hurts. If you don't adapt in the SEC, you stagnate, and when you stagnate you get Phil Fulmer Appreciation Night less than a year after appearing in the SEC Championship game. I'm not advocating that Richt be fired, but I do expect him to take ownership for the year that got away. It is his responsibility to his team, the university, the Alumni and the fans. -- Greg Pope

p.s. despite my angry vent, I hope you and your family are doing well.

Hi Greg,

The family is fine. Excited about the holidays.

I will post something later about what I think regarding our problems on defense and special teams. In a nutshell, we can't keep doing things the same way when the results are consistently unacceptable.

Greg,

You are my hero.

Great comment! I couldn't and won't say it any better.

Oh, and here's some great news... ESPN has confirmed that Monte Kiffin is following his son to UT. That man knows Defense like nobody's business. Pencil in an ass whoopin' nest year at Neyland. Ugh.

As PWD said, we have serious problems at the DNA level on Defense. And that won't get better anytime soon. It sure as hell won't get better with Martinez there.
