URBAN MEYER AND THE GATOR HOTLINE

On my 3 minute ride home from work tonight, the Florida Gator Hotline was on the radio. This is a show in which Mick Huber, voice of the Gators (OHHH MYYYYY) and Coach Urban Meyer field questions from bar patrons at the Buffalo Wild Wings (or whatever) and from phone callers. Like all call-in shows, you get your typical morons calling in and giving the coach advice on what to do differently. One thing I have noticed over the past several years is that many of the Gator fans that call in still refer to their National Championship coach as Coach Meyers. I know that Meyers is close to Meyer, but still... come on. It ain't that hard. Think of it this way... Oscar Mayer - Urban Meyer. Neither has an "s". It should be easy to remember. Maybe the University of Florida could fund an awareness campaign to the tune of the Oscar Mayer jingle, "My ball coach has a first name, it's U-R-B-A-N... my ball coach has a second name, it's M-E-Y-E-R. And if you say it with an "S" then you're a D-U-M-B-A-S-S."

During this show tonight, one caller asked Coach Meyers...errr...Meyer, why they were missing so many tackles. Meyer responded that they are 19-2 in there last 21 games and that in both losses they did not tackle well. Then he said that the Florida Gators work harder on tackling than any team in the country. I thought that statement was a little bit like when Napoleon Dynamite said this...

How can he know that they work harder on tackling than anyone in the country? Well, they did win with defense last year. Just as the Gamecocks are doing at this very moment. It is 24-10 and the Cocks have two defensive touchdowns by Acworth, Georgia product-Eric Norwood- and have not missed a tackle since the UL-LAF game. This defense is making the top QB in the SEC look mediocre. I still hope the Cats can come back and win.
