What If There Is Nothing Wrong With This O-Line?

What has happened to our offensive line? Perhaps nothing - at least in the running game. Remember in 2007 when many were freshmen and led us to an 11-2 record and a #2 final ranking? Then in 2008, while disappointing, we were 10-3? Then last year we played without Knowshon Moreno, Matthew Stafford and Mohamed Massaquoi fell to 8-5? Strangely, the production, based on yards per carry was greater in 2009 (4.68) than it was in 2007 and 2008 (both 4.53). Thus far this year, we have averaged 4.03. However, against Colorado, with AJ Green back on the field, we averaged 5.88 ypc which pulled our season average up from 3.6 to 4.03.

So now we have this tremendously experienced offensive line and our production is similar to previous years - at least with AJ Green on the field, yet we are mediocre at best and poor at worst. I think one conclusion that may be drawn is that our offensive line is performing at its capability level, but that level is significantly below where we believed it was because in the past few years the team was being bailed out at times by the superlative play of Moreno, Stafford, Massaquoi and Green.

What do you think?
